How can we assist you today?

We are here to provide expert guidance and support for your needs.

Our tutoring services have evolved significantly, now encompassing advanced fields like AI and HPC, while still maintaining a strong educational foundation.
We leverage cutting-edge technology and supercomputing resources to enhance our consultancy services, ensuring our clients stay ahead in the tech landscape.

We are a small startup that makes a big splash to empower your business and educational pursuits in science and technology.

We started out purely as a tutoring business. As we grow, we expand to the current hottest science and tech topics in AI, HPC, quantum computing and robotics. By being on the forefront of science and technology, we show our students that their teachers are still relevant. Student want to know that what they learn in the classroom will get somewhere. It is a strong motivation for them to learn. On the other hand, scientific and engineering research is really just learning at a much higher level. Sometimes scientists learn different ways to look at problems in their areas of expertise by trying to answer the simple questions of students. The communication and problem solving skills that a good teacher possesses are also what make them good researchers. Teaching and research are mutually beneficial activities. It is why the top universities require their professors to both teach and research. It is also why we as a small tech startup do both tutoring and science consultancy.

Many of my former students struggled in math, physics and computer science when we first had them. They were actually quite smart. But for whatever reason, they could not learn from their school teachers. They needed a teaching style that meshed with their learning style. Many school teachers teach in a way that is cryptic and ambiguous because that was how their own teachers taught them when they were young. There is this wrong idea in academia that whatever is incomprehensible is intellectually superior. We, on the other hand, teach in a way that is clear, direct, precise and relevant. Only after you have learned from the best in the top universities of the world and have interacted with many Nobel laureates do you realize that clarity, directness, precision and relevance are the true marks of a genius. Sometimes the difference between a master and a novice is in the small things that ordinary people do not notice. These small things enable us to teach the same contents better than all the other school teachers. The key is to know exactly the right thing to say and do at the right time. Unbeknown to most people, EQ is just as important as IQ in science as well as teaching.

Science and technology are a lot like teaching in that a scientist needs to have a strong intuition of what are the right things to try and not just try everything randomly. The solution space can be infinite. We do not have the economy of time and resources to try everything. Intelligence is key to narrow the scope of the solutions. AI is very helpful in narrowing the solution space but does not replace human intelligence. Sometimes companies hire consultants to solve problems that have definite answers but the in house experts may not be aware of them. If the problem is just one off, it is more cost effective to hire a consultant than to hire additional employees. Other times, the problem does not even have any known solution. There is no expert in the company (or anywhere else for that matter) to call. It is the kind of situations where we thrive. We can come into a new situation, learn the problems quickly and use our intuition to find the simplest and most cost effective solution. An example of this approach is illustrated in the photo of our inductive plasma experiment below. It was the first of this kind built in Hong Kong. Even though we had worked on a plasma torch at UCLA many years ago, we had never built one from scratch. We just learned as we went and was able to make it happen quickly at a small fraction of the typical cost of similar experiments. In summary, when you hire us as consultants, you may or may not be hiring some ones who already have all the answers. But you will definitely be hiring some ones who are experts of problem solving with a lot of experience in solving a wide range of difficult problems.

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” – Steve Jobs

Looking beyond the school yards and business offices to the bigger world stage, China and US seem to be building more walls than bridges. What happens on the world stage has direct impact on education and finance. Examples are visas and tariffs. Stability is the foundation of prosperity. To maintain peace, we need to promote collaboration between China and USA. We, as world citizens, all have some small parts to play. Currently the hottest topics in the China-US tech war are AI, HPC and semiconductor. Ironically our company is tasked by US to bring an AI and HPC software suite called E4S to China. E4S was a legacy of ECP (Exascale Computing Project)–a US Department of Energy (DOE) program between 2016 and 2024 tasked with a mission to develop the necessary software for exascale computers. An exascale supercomputer is capable of carrying out a billion billion floating point operations in one second, which is a major milestone of a country’s technological achievement. The first exascale computer is Frontier launched in 2022 at Oak Ridge National Lab in Tennessee, USA. Frontier is currently the second faster supercomputer in the world. E4S is used on Frontier as well other top ranking US supercomputers such as Aurora. E4S is a collection of container images maintained by OACISS at University of Oregon in Eugene. E4S contains hundreds of AI and HPC packages compiled from source. Some parts of E4S have export control from US but the container images are open source. We do not know how others in US will react to E4S being brought to China and how China will receive it. There is a China-US technology and science agreement (STA) signed by Jimmy Carter and Deng Xiaoping in 1979 and was renewed in December 2024 for another 5 years. For E4S to fit into the STA framework, both the Chinese and US governments have to be on board. It will be interesting to see what happens next. I don’t particularly like TV evangelists. But I agree with Robert Schuller when he said, “I’d rather attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed.” China-US relations does not have to be a zero sum game. I believe the two countries can coexist peacefully. It is ironic that AI and HPC (two hottest topics of the current tech war) become the instruments of peace.
